The restaurant Goya Gallery de València has won for the second consecutive year the National Contest of Olla amb Carabassa Vicente Granero-Vila de Serra. A contest the fourth edition of which was held this morning in Serra, in the heart of the natural park of the Sierra Calderona, and in which 9 establishments have participated. The restaurant Mosaic of Meliana has won the first prize in the category of autumn fruit dessert followed by the restaurant Juan XXIII of Benifaió and Sequial 20 of Sueca. El Racó de Meliana and Setaigues de Siete Aguas have been second and third in the pot competition.
The professional competition is named after the cook Vicente Granero, gastronomic reference of Serra and aims to promote and recover the pot amb carabassa, a typical dish of local cuisine. The contest is part of the III gastronomic days of the pumpkin that are celebrated until October 27 and in which 10 local establishments, restaurants, bars, butchers or ovens participate.
In the words of the mayor, Alicia Tusón “the contest wants to assert the traditional cuisine of our town and our people. I am convinced that these days will serve to highlight the quality and proximity of the products offered by our establishments”.
The participating restaurants have gathered at 10:30 am in the Plaza de la S.M. La Primitiva to compete in the two competitions. La olla amb carabassa is a dish of traditional local cuisine whose main ingredient is pumpkin. Beans, potatoes, nabiicol and rice also accompany this vegan and frugal dish.
Nine restaurants competed in the contest: Restaurando Juan XXIII of Benifaió; the restaurants of València, Binhui food and Goya Gallery; Setaygues of Siete Aguas; El Racó and Mosaic of Meliana; Sequial 20 of Sueca, Casa Macario of Tarvernes de la Valldigna and La Garrofera of Serra.
The promotion of the pot amb carabassa also has a popular and local version of the contest to be held next Saturday, October 26 and is part of the third gastronomic days: pumpkin, tradition and innovation. An edition in which 10 local companies are participating: 8 bars and restaurants and 2 stores that include elaborations with pumpkin as the protagonist. On the same Saturday there will be a tasting of pumpkin products and a pumpkin decorating contest for the little ones.
