The pellet that is made in the biomass plant that has the City Council of Serra has achieved the certificate of brand Parc Natural de la Serra Calderona Producte Natural. The brand is a distinctive mark awarded by the Directorate General of Natural Areas to natural products, crafts and other activities such as nature tourism that are obtained, produced or provided within the area of socio-economic influence of the natural parks of the Valencian Community.
The pellet is obtained from the biomass coming from the pruning and cleaning of the forest surface of the public utility mountain 105 Alto Pino, which belongs to the Serra Town Council. Once the biomass is transferred to the transformation plant, it is converted into pellets. A fuel that serves to feed the heating boilers of the CEIP Sant Josep, Escoleta Infantile Municipal and the City Council of Serra and the Medical Center. In addition, the council markets the surplus production among the neighborhood that use it to feed the stoves or boilers they have installed in their homes.
“We continue to manage our mountains to the best of our ability. We are committed to a circular economy that generates jobs in our town and fights against climate change while trying to minimize the consequences of the abandonment of the traditional uses of the mountains” says the mayor, Alicia Tusón. The mayoress takes the opportunity to request “more investment by the Conselleria, we can not manage the entire forest area with our resources,” she adds.
Serra is a pioneer municipality in the renewable energy sector from biomass and its transformation into pellets. An activity in synergy with sustainable forest management approaches and the fight against forest fires and climate change. A circular economy project that puts the municipality at the forefront of municipal management of forest resources.
