The 49th edition of the Garbí Hill Climb is warming up its engines and is ready to take place this weekend. As a novelty, the oldest Valencian motor racing event will count towards the Spanish Mountain Cup (CopaEM) and was presented this morning in Serra.
In the words of the mayoress of Serra, Alicia Tusón: “Serra is proud to host this event with such a long tradition, which is about to celebrate its 50th edition. This year it also counts towards the Spanish Mountain Cup, an event that gives it prestige in our town and makes us a benchmark in mountain motor racing”.
58 participants will compete in the mythical ascent to the Garbí next Sunday, which has a route of 6.6 km and will take place in three stages. The route will start at km 28.700 of the CV-310 in the municipality of Torres Torres and will finish at km 1.700 of the CV-3341 road in the plan de las Lomas in the municipality of Serra, at the foot of the Garbí. The CV-310, at kilometre 22.9, before the San Antonio restaurant, and the CV-3341 will be closed to traffic from 6.00 in the morning.
The town of Serra will host the technical and administrative verification of the vehicles on Saturday afternoon from 16.00 hours at the Clara ravine, next to the Héctor Catalá Municipal Sports Centre. There, the vehicle exhibition park will be set up so that fans can get a close-up view of the cars taking part in this 49th edition of the ‘Ascent of El Garbi’.
The fact that the event counts towards the Spanish Mountain Cup has led to the participation of teams from outside the Valencian Community. Participants from Galicia, Catalonia, Aragon, Andalusia, Madrid and Murcia will be present at the event.
To facilitate the arrival of fans and spectators, for the second year a minibus will leave from the Serra Town Hall and will take the CV-310 to the Oronet pass, at the junction with the CV-3341. The bus will make the journey uninterruptedly between 6:00 and 12:00 in the morning. This was announced by Manuel Durán, race director and president of the Escudería Bengala during the presentation of the event.
The vice-president of the Valencian Automobile Federation, Javier Viciano, was also present at the presentation ceremony and thanked the towns for their involvement in the event. The organisers are appealing to common sense to ensure that the fans stay in safe places and respect the environment of the natural park. Manolo Durán concluded that they have their sights set on celebrating the half-century of the Subida al Garbí in 2024.
