Serra is getting ready to celebrate the 18th Fira de la Calderona-52nd Dia de la Cirera (Calderona Fair-52nd Day of the Cherry) on May 25th and 26th. The town nestled in the heart of the Sierra Calderona is immersed in preparations for the most important event of the year, which is a festival of regional tourist interest since 2022.
The Fira de la Calderona is the great showcase of the tourist, gastronomic and commercial offer of the town of Serra. The Cirera Day was born to promote the most typical product of Serra, the cherry. A product that has been losing weight as a result of the abandonment of the traditional trades of the mountains and has evolved to be framed within the fair. “We want to maintain our traditions and we continue to celebrate this day to pay tribute to our ancestors,” says the mayor, Alicia Tusón.
The Fira de la Calderona also wants to show the environmental and cultural values of the mountains and the tourism potential of all the towns that make up the Calderona territory and also have the opportunity to be present at the fair to present all its attractions. Three regions, Camp de Túria, Camp de Morvedre and Alt Palància, between the provinces of Valencia and Castelló, under the umbrella of the territory that makes up the Sierra Calderona.
In the words of the mayoress, Alicia Tusón: “La Fira de la Calderona is the great festival of Serra to promote our town as a destination for nature, gastronomic and cultural tourism. A party in which we give all the best of us.”
The program includes a large market of local products and artisans, theatrical performances with Maria la Calderona as the protagonist, guided tours of the oil museum and the tower of the Hermitage, musical performances, parades with the dolçaina and tabales, workshops of crafts, children’s games, master class of traditional Valencian dances, workshops of crafts, traditional music with the folk group Rascanya, parade with the batukada. The main event of the fair is celebrated on Sunday 26 with the distribution of cherries to all visitors to the town.
