The project that will materialize in different phases has begun with the rehabilitation of the external walls.
In this phase of recovery of the monument is going to proceed to the elimination of the improper elements of the wall, repair the external cracks, reconstruction of gaps and cleaning the walls, eliminating thus the biotic elements that the passage of time has deposited upon it. This intervention aims to reinforce structurally construction. For this purpose, the municipality of Serra has obtained a subsidy of 38,701.93 euros from the Generalitat Valenciana for the recovery of the Valencian cultural heritage.
Likewise, the consistory of this locality of Camp de Túria has obtained another subsidy by the Diputación de Valencia of 50,000 euros that will materialize shortly. The integral project of recovery of the Tower of Señor de la Vila, however, is more ambitious and amounts to little more than 200,000 euros. It contemplates the consolidation of the interior walls and the definition of intramural levels to make the tower visitable.
With these works, and those of the Tower of the Hermitage that already has another subsidy of the European Fund for Regional Development for its rehabilitation “we intend to put in value our rich architectural heritage in a way that complements our tourist offer of Nature “says the mayor of Serra, Alicia Tusón. Serra is known to be located in the heart of the Sierra Calderona Natural Park, however its rich cultural heritage is the great unknown. “We want to maintain the patrimonial essence of our municipality, keep it, put it in value and become an important generator of prosperity” adds the mayor.
The intention of the consistory presided by Tusón is to continue recovering all the architectural patrimony of the locality. This construction, the tower of the Lord, defensive element that also served as prison and to which the House of the Lord of the Vila was adjoined, next to the other three towers (Ermita, Ria and Satarenya) all of them of Andalusian period and all were part of the defensive system of the Castell de Serra. All of them are goods of Cultural interest and date back to the 8th-9th centuries.
