Serra Town Council has added universal routes for the deaf and blind to its tourist offer. The council of the municipality located in the heart of the natural park of the Sierra Calderona extends the free offer of the routes with caterpillar chair for people with reduced mobility to other groups with special needs. A further step forward in accessible and inclusive quality tourism from the hand of Turismo Adaptado V3.

Last Saturday 1st February, 22 people were able to enjoy this route in the Castell de Serra, a guided activity with an adapted caterpillar chair and interpreter guides for deaf and blind people. The universal route allowed accessibility to different points of natural and heritage tourist interest of the municipality located in the heart of the Sierra Calderona.

“We extended the offer of adapted routes to other groups such as deaf and blind people. We were already working with people with reduced mobility with the caterpillar chair, which allowed a high degree of autonomy. Now we are moving towards a more inclusive tourism that takes everyone into account. We work for people, so that everyone can enjoy leisure and free time on equal terms”, says the mayoress, Alicia Tusón.

Serra’s tourism department has programmed four more universal routes to the castle throughout the year to complete the range of free guided tours offered by Serra Town Council. The route, always within the Sierra Calderona Natural Park, crosses the historic market gardens of Ria and Tóixima, the Ria tower and the Ombria fountain until it reaches the foot of the castle.

With these experiential tourism routes, the aim is to make nature inclusive for everyone and for people to connect with the environment and with each other in the incomparable setting of the Sierra Calderona.
