Serra Town Council has decided to prohibit access to the Castell de Serra (9th century) due to the massive influx of visitors. The monument, which is an monument of Cultural Interest, has been under considerable human pressure in recent weeks. The decision will take effect from 00.00 hours tomorrow Saturday, 30 January 2021. “We are taking this decision to safeguard the integrity of the people and the monument itself,” says the mayoress of Serra, Alicia Tusón.
The technical reports advise its closure “because of the state of conservation in which it is and the massive influx of visitors”. Data from the Tourist Office show that the number of visitors has increased considerably in recent weeks in all areas of the municipality, fountains, recreational areas, trails and paths and especially in the Castle of Serra.
On the other hand, controls will also be reinforced by the Local Police to prevent access of people from municipalities with perimeter confinement. Civil Protection volunteers will also collaborate to inform visitors. “I appeal to individual responsibility. The health situation is very complicated. We must make a collective effort and stay at home,” said the mayoress.
