Serra will host the second edition of the National Olla de Carabassa competition Vicente Granero-Vila de Serra on December 3. With this contest that aims to recover this typical dish of the municipality that is located in the heart of the Sierra Calderona, 12 restaurants will compete to see who cooks the best pot of pumpkin. The contest is named after the award-winning local chef, Vicente Granero.
The terrace of the Retiree’s home will be the stage where the participants meet to compete for the award. The pot of pumpkin is a dish of traditional mountain cuisine and has as an ingredient the pumpkin. White beans, potatoes, turnip and rice also accompany this dish that is intended to promote and make known. Parallel to the pumpkin pot contest, there will also be prizes for the best desserts based on autumn fruit.
The jury will be made up of renowned professionals, kitchen critics and a housewife with knowledge of the dish. The restaurant that cooks the best pot will be awared with € 1000. The second and third place, will be 500 and 300 euros respectively. The dessert prizes will go from € 500 for the first prize, to € 300 and 150 for the second and third, respectively.
The event, in addition to promoting the typical plate, wants to become a gastronomic reference of the first order. An event that together with the Fair of the Calderona and the Day of the Cirera serve to make known the locality. The contest is named after Vicente Granero, owner of the Restaurant Casa Granero de Serra, the most representative and award-winning chef in the town.
