Francesc Colomer has delivered to the mayor, Alicia Tusón, the distinctive declaration of the Fira de la Calderona-Dia de la Cirera de Serra as a festival of tourist interest of the Valencian Community. A recognition that comes in a year in which the Day of the Cirera celebrates its 50th edition and the Fira de la Calderona the 16th The festival will be held this weekend June 4 and 5. The mayoress and part of the government team have received the regional secretary of Tourism who has signed in the book of honor and highlighted the dedication of the people of Serra “to build a tourism model respectful of the environment and people.” After a small working meeting around the tourism projects that the municipality is working on with the support of Turisme Comunitat Valenciana they have visited the tower of the Ermita and have followed part of the route of the Sculptures, the tourist itinerary that shows the monumental and cultural heritage of the municipality.
“We have welcomed this distinction with great joy and excitement in a special year in which we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dia de la Cirera which is part of the Fira de la Calderona which is the great showcase of the tourist, gastronomic and commercial offer of the town” says Alicia Tusón. The Dia de la Cirera was born to promote the most typical product of Serra, the cherry. A product that has been losing weight as a result of the abandonment of the traditional trades of the mountains and has evolved to be framed within the Fira de la Calderona.
Throughout the weekend activities have been scheduled for all audiences. Crafts, market products, workshops, music or traditional games. As a novelty, el Museu d l’Oli will also open its doors at different times and there will be 8 theatrical performances to raise awareness of the figure of the Calderona, the actress and lover of Philip IV who gave her name to the mountain. Two commemorative exhibitions have also been programmed. The Fira de la Calderona also wants to show the environmental and cultural values of the Serra and the tourist potential of all the villages that make up the Calderona territory, three counties and two different provinces. In this way Altura, Gátova, Olocau, Marines and Náquera will be present in addition to the office of the natural park and the Tourist Info of the region of Camp de Túria.
Traditional music will also be present throughout Saturday with different parades by the Group of Tabal and Dolçaina de Serra that will hold its traditional meeting with other groups from different localities. On Saturday will also perform the group Carraixet and batukada of the local group Baketa Batuca.
The central moment of the day of the Cirera will be held on Sunday at 12.00 noon. After the institutional act, the queen of the festival, Marta Perez, and court of honor will present visitors with a basket of cherries, typical fruit of Serra that although it has become a very small crop continues to pay tribute.
